Olivia Nuzzi’s former fiancé Ryan Lizza is making more claims about her alleged year-long “personal relationship” with Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Last month, reports surfaced that Nuzzi, a 31-year-old New York magazine reporter, and the former presidential candidate, 70, had been in a relationship after she interviewed him for a profile last November. Nuzzi later claimed that Lizza harassed and blackmailed her before allegedly leaking her and Kennedy’s alleged relationship in an attempt, she claims, to get her back.
In new court documents filed this week and obtained by CNN, The Daily Beast and Wall Street Journal, Lizza denied the allegations and recalled finding out that Nuzzi “had been cheating on me with a married man for almost a year.”
Kennedy has been married to Curb Your Enthusiasm actress Cheryl Hines since 2014.
Lizza reportedly alleged in his filing in Washington, DC’s Superior Court that after he discovered Nuzzi and Kennedy’s alleged relationship, Nuzzi claimed Kennedy wanted to “control,” “possess” and “impregnate” her.
Lizza, the Chief Washington Correspondent for Politico, claimed that Nuzzi described the relationship as “toxic,” “unhealthy,” “stupid,” psychotic,” “crazy,” and “indefensible,” acknowledging the “huge power disparity” between her and Kennedy, per CNN.
Lizza reportedly further claimed that Nuzzi showed “catastrophically reckless behavior” as Kennedy allegedly manipulated her throughout their relationship.
Lizza reportedly alleged in his filing that although he reassured Nuzzi he could “help her get away from the disturbing relationship with her paramour,” he “seriously doubted that it was possible for us to have a future together,” despite Nuzzi’s attempts and pleas to reconcile.
“Ms. Nuzzi resisted any effort to formally end our relationship and she repeatedly asked me for more time to consider our future,” Lizza alleged in his filing. “This remained her position up until the last time we had any discussion about it, on September 15th.”

Lizza reiterated that he never harassed Nuzzi nor threatened to expose her and Kennedy’s relationship to get her back. “Everything I know about her affair comes directly from Ms. Nuzzi herself,” he reportedly stated in court docs.
He also reportedly denied the “defamatory lies” that he hacked into Nuzzi’s devices, and “threatened physical violence” against her. Instead, he said he urged her to pay back the advance they received from a book deal claiming this to be “the second presidential cycle in a row where Ms. Nuzzi’s personal indiscretions have sabotaged our book project,” per CNN. He claims in his filing that Nuzzi also allegedly had an affair in 2020 that thwarted their book deal.

A representative for Kennedy also said, per WSJ, that Lizza’s account of his relationship with Nuzzi “is not true.” The rep also previously denied the reports of a relationship and said, “Mr. Kennedy only met Olivia Nuzzi once in his life for an interview she requested, which yielded a hit piece.”
A spokesperson for Kennedy told PEOPLE, “The accusations about Robert Kennedy are categorically false and he will not participate in reporting on triple hearsay allegations made in a dispute between other people.”
In his filing, Lizza denied leaking Kennedy and Nuzzi’s alleged relationship.
“I was also not the source for the reporter who first broke the news of Ms. Nuzzi’s affair,” Lizza reportedly stated in the filing, referencing Status: New York Magazine reporter Oliver Darcy who broke the story on Nuzzi and Kennedy’s alleged affair. “Ms. Nuzzi knows this because the reporter told her this.”
“Her allegation of [me] trying to blackmail her back into our relationship is a disgraceful lie contradicted by the most basic facts,” he reportedly continued. “Ms Nuzzi’s own recklessness is solely responsible for the public ridicule, humiliation and professional damage she says she has suffered.”
A court hearing between Lizza and Nuzzi is scheduled for this time next month, CNN reports. Both Lizza and Nuzzi have been placed on leave from their jobs.
