While we’re on the topic of tattoos, here’s a look at celebs who have either gotten their ink removed or keep adding new pieces to their body:
1.
To start, Johnny Depp famously had “Winona Forever” tattooed on his bicep, but he eventually changed it to “Wino Forever” when they called it quits in 1993.
2.
Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker is all about the ink. From pieces inspired by his wife Kourtney Kardashian Barker to the logo of his favorite automobile brand, every tattoo he has comes with a story.
3.
Mark Wahlberg used to be tatted up, but you’d never know that if you looked at him today. While he was in the middle of removals, he brought his older kids along “so they see how painful it is,” hoping they wouldn’t follow in his footsteps and get tattooed one day. His other motivation? “I wanted them to be [removed] by the time I did The Fighter because putting makeup on and covering them up has always been a pain in the butt,” he said.
5.
Angelina Jolie was previously married to Billy Bob Thornton and got his name inked on her upper arm. The two ended up getting divorced, so she lasered his name off.
6.
Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz is no stranger to tattoos and even hosted two seasons of Best Ink.
7.
In 2015, Khloé Kardashian said goodbye to the “tramp stamp” she got at age 16. The reality star documented the process on Instagram and said, “I should’ve listened to Kim when she told me, ‘You don’t put a bumper sticker on a Bentley.'”
8.
In 2023, soccer star David Beckham got another tattoo to celebrate his wife, Victoria Beckham. Since she’s a Spice Girl, he got “Posh” in cursive ink on one of his fingers.
9.
In 2023, Megan Fox covered up a lower pelvis tattoo once dedicated to her ex-husband, Brian Austin Green. She worked with artist Jesse Tattoo on the new piece, which features a snake and flowers. You can see the work here.
10.
Maroon 5’s Adam Levine put his ink on full display by going shirtless during the 2019 Super Bowl Halftime Show in Atlanta, Georgia.
11.
By 2007, you could only see the remnants of Rose McGowan’s pinup girl tattoo that was once featured on her back.
12.
In 2023, Cara Delevingne debuted new ink she got from artist Matteo Nangeroni. Eagle-eyed fans pointed out that the word “dormiveglia” should have been defined as “the place that stretches between sleeping and waking” rather than “walking,” as featured in the original tattoo. By 2024, the error had been fixed, as seen in the red carpet photo below.
13.
With over 60 tattoos, Ariana Grande couldn’t resist honoring her leading role in Wicked by getting a tattoo on her hand. “It’s Glinda from the original L. Frank Baum book,” she said. “I waited forever to fill up this hand. And I thought, ‘I’m gonna wait for the right thing to come along,’ and yeah, that felt very right.”
14.
Melanie Griffith once had a tattoo celebrating her love for her now ex-husband, Antonio Banderas. After they finalized their divorce in 2015, she replaced the piece with a crossword-inspired look that featured the names of her four children.
15.
Halsey is another singer who loves a good ink session. She reportedly has over 40 tattoos (and counting!).
16.
Pamela Anderson originally got her bicep tattooed while working on the movie Barbed Wire. She was motivated to get the ink since the makeup team would paint it on her arm each day she was on set. Now that the movie is long over, the tattoo is nearly impossible to see in more recent photos of the starlet.
19.
In 2022, Jason Momoa revealed his head tattoo while boarding a flight to New Zealand — and it was all done in the traditional Polynesian way. “Honored to be a part of this,” he said in an Instagram post showcasing the process. “Powerful moment in my life.”
